Indian Navy Participates In IBSAMAR 2010 Excercise



Indian Navy is participating in India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime(IBSAMAR 2010) exercises being conducted in the Indian Ocean region offDurban. IBSAMAR II has 11 ships taking part from the navies of India,Brazil and South Africa. 


The second edition of IBSAMAR is scheduled from 13 – 27 Sep 2010.The exercises have been structured with the aim of sharing bestpractices in various facets of naval operations. The Indian shipsparticipating are INS Mysore, INS Tabar, INS Ganga and INS Aditya.South Africa is fielding Amatola, Spioenkop, Drakensburg, CharlotteMaxeke, Queen Modjadji-I and Galeshewe and the lone Brazillian NavalShip is Niteroi. Associated integral helicopters including Lynx &Seakings are also participating.


An Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for Exercise IBSAMAR II washeld in Mumbai, India over the period 12-16 October 2009. The FinalPlanning Conference (FPC) was held at the Submarine Training School inSimon’s Town on 6 August 2010 which continued until the commencement ofthe exercise on 6 September 2010. South Africa is the host country,India is the lead country and Brazil is the support country.

IBSAMAR I took place between 5 to 16 May in 2008.
IBSAMAR is steered by the Joint Work Group for Defence, which is oneof 16 Joint Working Groups of the three nations looking into variouscooperation initiatives.
